
What's On This August In The Algarve

August is high summer in the Algarve, our hottest month of the year, which means most events take place in the cooler evenings. It’s also the season of sardines! From seafood festivals to open-air cinemas, and folkloric celebrations to kids’ workshops, there’s something for everyone this month. We've even included a dedicated section for family-friendly fun, just in time for the school holidays.
Here are some of our QP selected favourite events happening this August:
QP Savills Loulé Office – Loulé | 23 August | 10am - 12 pm
We’re opening the doors of our Loulé office on the main avenue for a relaxed morning of good conversation, bubbles, and a sweet summer treat.
Portimão Sardine Festival – Portimão | 5 – 10 August | 6 pm – Midnight | Free entry
A classic summer tradition. The riverside of Portimão comes alive with grilled sardines, local music, entertainment, and regional crafts. For those not keen on sardines, there’s a wide selection of food and drink to enjoy.
Albufeira Sardine Festival – Olhos de Água | 7 – 9 August | 8 pm – 1 am | Free entry
Enjoy fresh sardines, live music, and folklore performances, on one of QP's favourite beaches, Olhos de Água.
Seafood Festival – Olhão Jardim Pescador | 14 August | 7:30 pm – 1:30 am | €10 adult €5 child
The Algarve’s biggest seafood celebration returns with fresh shellfish, regional dishes, and a packed programme of live music.
Nights at the Mirante – Monchique | 8 – 9 August | 7 pm – Midnight | Free entry
A fusion of music, food, and mountain views. Street food, live acts, and a relaxed atmosphere make this a perfect escape from the coastal heat.
FolkFaro – Faro | 17 – 23 August
FolkFaro brings together international dance, music, and costume in a celebration of cultural traditions. Expect parades, performances, workshops, and community spirit.
Dip in the Sea – Lagos Beach | 29 August | 11 am – 1 am | Free entry
A long-standing local tradition rooted in folklore, take a dip on August 29th to wash away the bad spirits and welcome the changing seasons. Festivities stretch from morning into the early hours.
White Night – Loulé | 30 August | Free entry
One of the Algarve’s biggest street parties. Dress in white and enjoy live music, street performers, light shows, and plenty of surprises as the town transforms into a glamorous summer send-off.

Enjoy classic films under the stars. A few of our favourites this month:

Dinosaur Valley – Albufeira Parque do Ribeiro | 1-24 August
Step into a Jurassic world with life-size dinosaurs, lights, and sounds. A magical experience for young explorers.
Silves Medieval Fair – Silves | 8 – 16 August | 6 pm – 1 am | €2 entry
Travel back in time with jousting tournaments, costumed performers, medieval food, and crafts. A family favourite every year.
Summer Workshop for Kids! – Loulé | Every Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday | 10 am – 3 pm

Medieval Days – Castro Marim Castle | 27 – 31 August | From 3 pm
A five-day celebration of medieval life with fire eaters, falconers, jesters, live music, and re-enactments, all set against the dramatic backdrop of Castro Marim’s ancient castle.
