The construction of a 2,3 kilometer-long cable car is taking place on the hilly area of Monchique. The project architect is Eric Castaldo and the investment is worth €6 million, construction should commence next year to be completed summer 2018.
The cable car and zip line will link Monchique to the Picota mountain, offering views of the mountain side.
The entrance location to the cable car will be the same as the Monchique heliport. The project will include a restaurant, an ice-cream shop, a playground, WCs, a newsagents/bookstore and a small commercial area for six shops. In Picota they plan to open a bar and a restaurant.
The cable car will cost €6 and it will run between April and November. During the winter it will open for the weekends and special occasions.
The project will undergo an environment impact study before moving on, however the architect does not foresee a problem with the approval.
