Portugal Golf Masters 2011

The Algarve welcomes some of the world greatest golfers to the region this week to compete in the Portugal Masters 2011.

Considered one of the leading European golf tournaments, the Masters will be held in Portugal for the fifth consecutive year offering a prize fund of €3 million.

The event further cements the Algarve as a premier golfing location, with resorts such as Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura attracting golfers year-round.

Quinta do Lago is a residential golfing resort just 15 minutes from Faro International Airport. It has five championship golf courses and is consistently rated among Europe’s top 20 golfing destinations. Its Laranjal Golf Course was just voted Best Golf Course in the 2011 Portugal Travel Awards.

Green Portugal a World Leader

Portugal, is a country leading by example. Already, it produces 43% of its electricity from renewable sources such as wind and hydropower, but the country has now increased its environmental commitment and taken up the green car challenge nationwide.

A network of public charging stations for electric vehicles has been installed across Portugal by Oracle and Portuguese not-for-profit company Inteli, as the transport industry gears up for anticipated public enthusiasm for electric cars across the world.

In doing so, by encouraging drivers to switch to electricity the country will grow even less reliant on fossil fuels and, in turn, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the magazine of Energy and Environmental Management has reported.

The Portuguese project, known as MOBI.E, will help Portugal increase its use of renewable energy and become less reliant on fossil fuels. It has seen 1,300 slow charging stations and 50 fast charging stations built as part of the government’s MOBI-E vehicle electrification project.

In an economic boost, it has also been announced that Portugal will also host one of Renault-Nissan’s battery plants, which will support the rollout of electric vehicles across Europe.

Quinta Properties’ Annual Party Leaves Guests Shaken and Stirred!

The Algarve 2011 summer season was launched in style last week as well over 300 Quinta do Lago residents and international guests turned out for the annual launch party of Quinta Properties’ Passion for Property Buyers’ Guide.

Quinta Properties was celebrating the publication of the 8^thedition of its annual guide, with a very stylish James Bond themed party, where the champagne flowed and exquisite delicacies were prepared and served by the two Michelin star restaurant, Vila Joya and its Chef, Dieter Koschina.

Quinta Properties co-Director, Alison Buechner Hojbjerg, said: “Passion for Property has fast become a must-read guide to buying, owning and selling property in and around Quinta do Lago. We invest a great deal of effort and resources in producing the stylish publication so that we can keep our clients informed and up-to-date on this fast-changing property market, therefore it is only fitting that we celebrate its launch with our equally popular and very stylish annual party.”

The highlight of the event was the Quinta Properties Charity Auction of a ‘Diner prive’ for 10 people, skilfully prepared by Chef Koschina and his team, and served in the home of the winning bidder. The auction raised €5,100 for the local charity Almancil Social and Cultural Association (ASCA) and was generously sponsored by Vila Joya.

Quinta Properties co-Director, Kerstin Buechner Dias, said: “The red carpet for the Quinta Properties 2011 party read like a list of who’s-who in Quinta do Lago. It was great to see so many of our valued clients and so much better for being able to support the local community and a very worthy cause in the Algarve through the monies raised by the Quinta Properties Charity Auction.”

Adding the de rigueur James Bond style and panache to the event, the red carpet was flanked by a speed boat, an Aston Martin and BMW’s latest car, the Z-4.
